Whitley Bay Big Local Seeking Benefit and Debt Advice Service Provider

Whitley Bay  Big Local, the ten year Big Lottery funded community led programme is looking to commission an experienced service provider to deliver benefit and debt advice in the Whitley Bay Big Local area and its immediate surroundings.

The contract, valued at £10,000, is to be awarded for a 12 month period beginning on 1st March 2017.

Following the successful introduction of a Credit Union in 2016, the volunteer community partnership is looking to build further on the services it can offer to the local community and is aiming to set up a regular drop-in service for local residents needing advice on debt management as well as access to benefits.

Suzanne Halliwell, chair of the Whitley Bay Big Local wellbeing group which is leading on this programme said: “This is a much needed service within the town and one which we know will be well received. We are looking for an experienced provider who will be able to help local residents to address a range of financial issues in order to further improve life for everyone living within the Big Local area.

“Whitley Bay Big Local has had a hugely positive impact over the past three years but we know we still have some way to go and know that this service will play an important role.

“As we as the drop in service we are also keen to consider the possibility of carrying out a benefit take up campaign in Whitley Bay and specifically with the designated Big Local area.”

The provider must be able to demonstrate direct experience of delivering similar activity and must be FCA regulated to undertake debt advice services.

The closing date for applications is Friday 27th January 2017 and any interested party is asked to contact anna.simpson@new-prospects.org
